“We have 18 players from LIV,” R&A CEO Martin Slumbers seems UNLIKELY to create a direct pathway for LIV Golf in the Open Championship

R&A CEO Martin Slumbers stated that LIV Golf players had “ample opportunity” to qualify for the Open Championship. However, the R&A is unlikely to set up a direct path for them. Slumbers emphasized that the R&A is still dedicated to ensuring that the world’s best players compete in the renowned tournament.
However, instead of creating LIV-specific exemptions, the organization has opted to expand the number of available spots for final qualifiers, incorporating pathways through the Asian Tour and Open Qualifying Series. Slumbers said this while addressing the media at the Open championship.
I think we have 18 players from LIV in the field, and I think we've got all the best players in the world. And that's what we do want to have, all the best players in the world coming through. So I think we've created those opportunities.Martin Slumbers said
While the 2024 Open witnessed a significant rise in LIV Golf participation, with 18 players, Slumbers emphasized the R&A’s commitment to giving equitable and accessible access to the best players from all circuits. He stated his willingness to consider future changes to the qualification standards as the golfing scene evolves.
Open Championship 2024: Field Explored
Scottie Scheffler is the favourite, at 4-1 odds, followed by Rory McIlroy at 8-1. However, golf analyst Patrick McDonald advises against betting on Collin Morikawa (10-1) because of his recent troubles in closing off tournaments, particularly on links courses.
The field consists of 12 amateur golfers, the most in recent years. Ludvig Aberg, a 24-year-old Swede, wants to be the second Swede to win a major. Additionally, 18 LIV Golf players will also compete in the 2024 Open Championship field.
