Giancarlo Stanton is still having trouble with his elbows. On Wednesday, he revealed having difficulties in performing normal tasks as he continues to deal with the tennis elbow (epicondylitis) injury. A WFAN Sports Radio host would later go off on him for not getting the surgery.
Last season, Stanton had issues with his elbows during Spring Training. The 5-time MLB All-Star admitted to having a very high level of pain in both of his elbows.
The designated hitter/outfielder ended up missing Opening Day. He would make his season debut on June 16 and play 77 regular-season games.
Stanton slugged 24 home runs and had 66 RBIs while he batted with a .273/.350/.594 slash line. His team’s season came to an end after losing in Game 4 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ahead of his 2026 Spring Debut next week, Stanton provided a grim update regarding his health. The 36-year-old told Randy Miller of NJ.com that he was having trouble opening a bag of chips and a bottle. Despite this setbacks, he wants to play a full season.
I can’t open a bottle. I can’t open a bag of chips … a bag of anything. That’s the way it is.

Stanton, who joined the Yankees after his MVP season with the Miami Marlins in 2017, has not played 162 games with the team yet. After appearing in 158 games with the team in 2018, the next most he has played with them in a regular season is 139 during the 2021 campaign.
Statistically, Stanton has played in just 56.4 per cent (582 of 1,032) of the Yankees’ regular-season games. This tennis elbow injury is reported to be something that has been troubling him since the 2024 season. While he had the option to undergo surgery, he would go against it.
You get the surgery and you can go back to being in the general population in a few months, but my job is to put some of the most force into a batted ball. … That’s not going to be fixed in surgery.
Giancarlo Stanton added
This is something that did not sit well with the Yankees fans. While discussing about this on The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle, host Craig Carton would slam Stanton while calling his decision “malfeasance” to the fans.
If you can’t open up a bag of chips seven months after your last at-bat, then you should have the freaking surgery, and I’m bothered by it. Because we deserve you being at your best, and there’s no way you’re going to be at your best, so I just think we deserve better on that one.

As per the report from Randy Miller, the Yankees plan to play Stanton against Team Panama next week before the World Baseball Classic (WBC). After that, the team will have two weeks of at-bats to get him ready for the Opening Day clash against the San Francisco Giants.
Giancarlo Stanton claims his Yankees story is still being written
Giancarlo Stanton will enter his 9th season with the New York Yankees in 2026. Ahead of this, the slugger expressed that his Yankees story is still being written.

Stanton joined the Yankees in 2018 after being named the National League MVP in 2017 with the Miami Marlins. He hit 59 home runs that year with the NL East side.
That campaign was also the rookie season of Aaron Judge. The current Yankees captain hit 52 home runs in 2017 and took home the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
When the team landed Stanton, it was expected that he and Judge would create a dangerous batting duo. While that did happen, the two of them have been unable to win the ultimate prize, the World Series.
After winning the American League Championship Series (ALCS) MVP with 4 home runs against the Cleveland Guardians, Stanton and the Yankees ended up losing the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While speaking with the reporters last week, the American international claimed his Yankees career will have a stain if he does not win the World Series.
The story is still being written. But the point of being a Yankee is being a champion. There’s always going to be a stain there without that.

The Yankees have not tasted championship success since 2009. This 16-year World Series title drought is the longest drought in their franchise history.
Stanton, on the other hand, has two guaranteed years remaining on his deal, along with a club option for the 2028 season. He will be hoping to end his career on a high and bring back the Commissioner’s Trophy to the Bronx.
