Rafael dos Anjos is making his much anticipated lightweight return soon, a division in which he had monumental success, defeating the likes of Donald Cerrone (twice), Anthony Pettis and Nate Diaz. He is just hours away from his fight against Paul Felder, who took up the fight on short notice. The Brazilian-American will be expecting to return with a bang.

There was a time when Rafael dos Anjos was scheduled to take on Conor McGregor in a title bout, way back in 2016. However, the bout was cancelled due to Rafael breaking his foot, prior to the fight. Conor then went on to face Nate Diaz instead, and ended up suffering his first loss in his UFC career. Now, looking back at the fight recently, Rafael dos Anjos still believes that the fight could materialize. Speaking in an interview rued about his missed chance to ‘beat’ McGregor when he was at his physical peak.

“I’m back at lightweight, I’m going to climb the rankings” – Rafael dos Anjos

Speaking in an interview with Morning Kombat, RDA was quoted as saying, “I’m passed that, but I believe that with me being back at lightweight this fight could still happen. We never know. I’m back at lightweight, I’m going to climb the rankings. Khabib, I don’t know if he’s retired or not but if he does it will leave the division wide open. Anything can happen. We were scheduled to fight twice, me and Conor.”

A ruing Rafael dos Anjos also said, “I was training so well for that fight. I was giving good guys a hard time. I was so ready, I had a lot of confidence in myself. I believe I would have won, but our lives took different paths and the fight didn’t happen. But I believe I would have won that fight.”

Conor is expected to face Dustin Poirier on January 23, 2021. Probably a win against Felder might give RDA the chance to at least call out Conor, to run back the fight which never happened. Would you like to see the fight happen?
