It looks like Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Fiziev will now be moved to a new date instead of next week, following a visa debacle from Fiziev’s side. Dos Anjos and Fiziev are fighting based on the build-up of “Rafael vs Rafael” which was initiated the latter. The fight was originally the main event for Fight Night 201 to be held in UFC Apex, Las Vegas, Nevada on February 19, 2022.

Dos Anjos last fought more than a year ago in November 2020 when he defeated Paul Felder via split decision. The former lightweight champion has fought only the very best through most of his career which includes the likes of Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson, Donald Cerrone, Kevin Lee, Eddie Alvarez, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson from lightweight and Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, Robbie Lawler and Leon Edwards from welterweight. Fiziev is an upcoming prospect whose record stands 11-1.

Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Fiziev will remain a five-round fight irrespective of co-main status

The news was first reported by sports journalist Ariel Helwani. He basically tweeted: Next weekend’s Rafael dos Anjos vs. Rafael Fiziev is likely being moved to the UFC 272 co-main event slot on March 5, sources say. It would remain a five-round fight. Delay in securing Fiziev’s visa was the issue. No word on new 2/19 main just yet. Walker-Hill is 2nd to last.”

This headliner of UFC 272 meanwhile is a grudge match between former teammates Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal who are bitter rivals and is considered one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history. Covington last fought at UFC 268 when he lost a unanimous decision in a five-round absolute back and forth against reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Masvidal also fought the champion last when he was knocked out in the second round by Usman.

Who do you think wins between Fiziev and Dos Anjos? Fiziev is more into striking and Dos Anjos has been known for excellent boxing time and again but is more seasoned as a wrestler and submission specialist. This fight is an interesting stepping stone for Fiziev if he keeps his winning streak extended against Dos Anjos as well, but the latter is absolutely one of the best fighters to have ever graced the Octagon. In short, you can never count Dos Anjos out even if you think it’s Fiziev’s time.
