Rafael Nadal waved his last goodbye to the Paris Olympics after he and Carlos Alcaraz lost out in the doubles quarterfinal match on Wednesday (July 31). Nadal and Alcaraz were up against the No.4 seed Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek.
It was only their third match together and both Nadal and Alcaraz entered as a doubles partner with no prior experience together before. Although Nadal won gold in men’s doubles back in 2016, his new partner did not have any practice.
Despite all this, they got past the first two rounds after some challenges. Although they didn’t start well, the Spaniards grew into a strong partnership. However, they faced their toughest challenge yet: the American duo, known as some of the best doubles players in the world.
Nadal and Alcaraz fought hard but were outplayed by the Americans, who performed better. The No. 4 seeds won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, advancing to the medal rounds and leaving Spanish fans disappointed.
