This is the most important event in sport, I hope I can find the energy I need and do good training. I know that if I can play good tennis on an individual level, I'll do well in doubles too, but I have to analyse what happened this week and work hard. I'm convinced that Carlos Alcaraz will be at a great level because he's coming in with confidence. We'll train together this week.

While the 38-year-old already has an Olympic gold medal in the doubles, Carlos Alcaraz has little to no experience in that category. However, despite his inexperience, the 21-year-old is expected to complement his compatriot well as both players tend to come alive on clay courts.

Rafael Nadal vows to play “much better tennis” than what he played in Bastad

Although Rafael Nadal made it to the final of the Nordea Open and is optimistic about his chances at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he was not very satisfied with the kind of tennis he played in Bastad, especially in the final. He claimed that he could have done better.

Nadal said that he was not able to play as well as he had been doing in practice sessions. The Spaniard also admitted that he needed to play much better if he intends to be competitive ont he court.

I came here with a very good feeling about my game because of what I was doing in training, but I have been unable to show it in the matches. I cannot say that I am satisfied with my tennis because the level of play has been very far from what I was doing in previous training sessions. I have to find out why and try to fix it. I take away from here the message that I have to play much better tennis to be competitive, there are no excuses.

While the former World No. 1 did not win the title in Bastad, he showed that he was in a very good shape physically. En route to the final, he won a marathon match in four hours and tunred up the very next day to fight his way from a set down and emerge victorious in three hours. If he continues to improve his fitness, he has a good chance of clinching a medal or two in Paris.
