Tennis great Rafael Nadal, following his recent decision to retire from the sport at the end of the year, expressed his desire to become Real Madrid President. The 38-year-old Spaniard happens to be a lifelong supporter of the club.
Rafael Nadal, often referred to as the undisputed ‘King of Clay’ recently announced his decision to retire from tennis. The 22-time Grand Slam winner, who has enjoyed a glistening career and is recognized as an ‘all-time great’, shocked fans by officially stating that he will bow out at the end of the Davis Cup in November. It remains to be seen what comes ahead for Nadal, especially keeping in mind his profound love for football and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
A long-time supporter of Los Blancos, Nadal is close to club president Florentino Perez and surprisingly expressed his wish to succeed the veteran as Real Madrid president someday. Nadal has been an honorary member of the club since 2011.
Speaking in a recent interview, Nadal expressed satisfaction with Perez’s leadership but did not rule out the possibility of heading the club someday, as such changes in life come drastically. Additionally, he stressed the need for taking on responsibilities.

Perez is an admirer of the tennis star and once stated that Nadal is the best Spanish sportsman of all time. He also added that the club is proud to have an ambassador like him.

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, a close friend of Nadal, led the way by reacting to the announcement. Through a heartfelt social media post, Ronaldo praised the 38-year-old Spaniard’s incredible career, adding how he has been an inspiration for millions of fans. The two sports stars share a great bond and were often pictured together during Ronaldo’s time at Real Madrid.
Apart from the Al-Nassr star, goalkeeper David de Gea and Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho also paid tributes to Nadal. Meanwhile, Real Madrid paid an emotional tribute to the tennis legend through a press release on his retirement.
