Rafael Nadal finally breaks silence on why he has never won the Rolex Paris Masters
Rafael Nadal has an astounding number of 35 Masters 1000 titles. The Spaniard is just one title behind Novak Djokovic in the race of the most ATP Masters titles. Moreover, Nadal has the highest win-loss percentage of 83% at the Masters’ events in history.
Even though such is the case, Rafa is yet to get his hands on a few Masters titles. One of these is the esteemed Paris-Bercy title. As the number 1 seed at the 2020 edition of this event, Nadal was the favourite to win his maiden Masters title in Paris. However, to everyone’s surprise, Alexander Zverev ousted him in straight sets in the semi-final yesterday.
After his shocking loss, Nadal attempted to assess the reason why he hasn’t won in the Parisian indoor hard courts so far.
Rafa analyses the barrier that won’t go away
In his post-match press conference, Rafa alluded to the surface being difficult to navigate through for him. He said, “Why I never won here in Paris? The surface is difficult.”
Paris Masters is the first indoor tournament that the Spaniard competes in. The conditions which this bring about for him aren’t as suitable to his game. However, Rafa gave his opponents who have vanquished him their due credit.
He said, “You can’t say it’s not normal that I don’t win a Masters 1000. Here you have the best players in the world. And there’s no point in losing when the opponent is better.”
Although, Nadal hasn’t lifted the Masters’ title in Paris, he has always made it to the quarter-finals when he’s contended here. Plus, during his first appearance, the legend reached the final, but lost to David Nalbandian in 2007.
After reaping another impressive result in Paris, the champion will be seen in action at the Nitto ATP Finals.
