The curtain came down on Rafael Nadal’s career on Tuesday (November 19) at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. The Spaniard lost his quarterfinal tie against Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp at the Martin Carpena Arena.

There are reports that cameras were present to film Nadal during the final days of his career. After Nadal’s loss, Carlos Alcaraz did his best to drive the team into the tie by beating Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets. But, he couldn’t push Spain to the finishing line as he and Marcel Granollers lost their doubles match against Dutch pair Wesley Koohlof and Van de Zandschulp.

Nonetheless, Spanish outlet Relevo recently reported that cameras followed Nadal for days leading up to the final moments of his career and on Tuesday night. The cameras also followed the Spaniard to the locker room and press conference with his fellow Spanish players. The filming of Nadal is with the view of making a documentary about the days of his career.

It is expected to be reminiscent of the Amazon Premier documentary on Roger Federer, titled “Federer: Twelve Final Days.” The 90-minute documentary was about the final days leading up to Federer’s retirement and on the occasion of the 2022 Laver Cup in London, where he hung his racket.

Fans will be in anticipation to know more about Nadal’s documentary when the full reports are eventually released. It was also reported that the filming covered Nadal’s conversation with David Ferrer before his match against Van de Zandschulp.

However, a few hours after the farewell, he revealed that his life had changed and that he had to accept living a different life than the one he had lived for the past 30 years.

The Davis Cup is always a beautiful experience, I have enjoyed it. In the end, the result has not been what we all would have liked, but that’s sports. My life is changing radically. I am accepting everything normally and living a life different from what it has been in the last 30 years.

Rafael Nadal said to RTVE

Nadal will now shift his focus away from tennis to family and business. He will also focus on his Rafael Nadal academy based in Manacor, which was recently affected by severe flooding in parts of Spain.
