Over a week after his retirement, Rafael Nadal made headlines once again for different reasons. He has an ample amount of free time on his hands and to make the most of it, he cheered for his favorite Real Madrid from the stands of Anfield when Luka Modric and Co. took on Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday (November 27).

Nadal hung up his racket at the Davis Cup in Malaga last week. He lost his first and only match in the tournament for Spain as Botic van de Zandschulp gave the Netherlands a 1-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals.

Although they won their next match, Spain failed to clinch the doubles decider and it knocked them out of the tournament. This brought an end to Nadal’s illustrious career.

Ahead of the Champions League clash, Nadal met Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, and Manuel Akanji during his visit to the City Football Academy. Nadal, who was with his youngest sister Maribel Nadal at Anfield, also shared a hug with City manager Pep Guardiola.

In the match, goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo wrapped up the contest in Liverpool’s favor. Arne Slot‘s team is on top of the UCL table with 15 points from five matches, while defending champions Real Madrid have won just six points from five matches and are 24th on the table.

Will Rafael Nadal become Real Madrid’s president?

There were rumors of Rafael Nadal becoming the president of Real Madrid. But his uncle Toni Nadal explained in a recent interview why such a move is not possible as long as Florentino Perez is in the role.

I am totally convinced that Rafael would not stand up to Florentino Perez because he is very happy with his management.

Toni Nadal told Marca

Nadal himself had spoken about it last year. As he is happy with Perez’s work, he won’t be taking up the new job but there’s still the possibility of it in the future.

I think I’d like to. We have the best presiden tright now. After that, life takes many turns, and one must consider if they are in a position to take on certain responsibilities.

Rafael Nadal said (via Marca)

Nadal became the second member of the Big 3 to retire after Roger Federer. He called time on his career with 22 singles Majors to his name, the second most in the history of men’s tennis, after Novak Djokovic (24).
