“Rafael Nadal makes you suffer the most,” Tommy Robredo shares his views about the toughest player to beat among the Big-3
Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo
Rafael Nadal is set to make his comeback at the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters followed by the US Open 2022. He has resumed his practice and is looking forward to achieving his 23rd Grand Slam title at the US Open 2022 and his 5th US Open title. He has been looking strong since the start of the year and is playing a different level of tennis altogether defying all odds against his age and injuries.
Rafael Nadal is the record holder for most singles Grand Slam titles in the Open era, surpassing his arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer with his back-to-back wins at the Australian Open 2022 and French Open 2022. His winning streak got a hindrance during the Wimbledon 2022 due to his abdominal injury during the quarter-final match followed by his withdrawal. Post his exit, he made the most of his recovery time getting himself recharged and rejuvenated ahead of the big major events.
Tommy Robredo applauds Rafael Nadal’s tremendous accomplishments
Recently, in an interview, former Spanish player Tommy Robredo spoke about his views on the big-3 of the tennis fraternity and why they are the greatest of all times. According to Robredo, Rafael Nadal is a tough player to beat as his playing skills are totally different than his counterparts Djokovic and Federer. He spoke, “Rafael was the most difficult to play against of the three, because of the way he played, with this ball speed, the effect of his forehand, the difference due to the fact that he is left-handed and the way he runs after each ball as if it were the last“.
The former Spaniard has never won against Nadal in their seven meetings whereas he has a 2-7 record against the Serb and a 1-11 record against the Swiss player. He further added that “I’m not saying that Federer and Djokovic are easy to play, but for me, Rafa has something that makes you suffer more on the court than the other two. Everyone who saw Rafa the first year could understand that he was going to be a great player. But he went much further and became one of the best sports athletes in the world, if not the best… it’s something that is not easy to achieve but he did it in a way tremendous.“
