In the past decade, social media has become an important medium to connect the tennis fans with the players. In tennis, several players are active on the their social media accounts. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Roger Federer have all used the modern communication channel, to keep their fans updated with their day-to-day activities.
Recently, there was a survey conducted to see which players from the tennis fraternity have the most fan following. The first on the list was Rafael Nadal, followed by Roger Federer. Serena Williams, 23 time Grandslam champion was third on the list, followed by a surprise name in the fourth spot, Sania Mirza, Indian professional tennis player.
Rafael Nadal, the most followed athlete on Social Media
Rafael Nadal topped the charts of being the most followed athlete on social media platforms, followed by Federer, Serena and Sania Mirza. Maria Sharapova, five time Grandslam champion and one of the most admired athletes completed the top five rankings.
The 17 time Grandslam champion, Novak Djokovic took the sixth spot, followed by Andy Murray who took the seventh spot. Former Serbian tennis player, Ana Ivanovic takes the eight spot, followed by 2009 US Open champion, Juan Martin del Potro. The tenth spot was occupied by the former Danish tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki.
