In a video that has been making rounds on social media, Rafael Nadal could be seen practicing with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz for the doubles event on the clay courts of Roland Garros on Wednesday for the Olympics, slated to take place on July 27th.
However, Nadal had wrapped a bandage around his thigh, which means he may pull out of the singles’ event. Before training with Alcaraz, Nadal didn’t appear on court to practice with 2024 French Open finalist Alexander Zverev. The Spaniard’s coach, Carlos Moya, later confirmed that Nadal suffered a setback so they decided to rest him for the day and that even he was not sure of Nadal’s decision to play singles in his last Olympics.

It was a setback and we decided that today Rafa would rest and not train to recover. We are going to give ourselves 48 hours, we have to wait but, at this point, I can't guarantee that Nadal will be fit to play (singles).Carlos Moya told Radioestadio Noche
If Nadal plays singles, he will face Marton Fucsovics in the first-round set to take place on Sunday. And if Nadal advances to the second round, then he could face Novak Djokovic, who will be locking horns with Matt Ebden in the first round.
Will Rafael Nadal play doubles with Carlos Alcaraz in spite of the thigh niggle?
As the video of Rafael Nadal playing with a bandage around his thigh raised doubts about his singles participation, coach Carlos Moya confirmed that Nadal won’t be pulling out of the doubles event with Carlos Alcaraz.

Nadal and Alcaraz will lock horns with first-round opponents Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteri on Saturday. The 38-year-old will be featuring in his fourth Olympics, while the four-time Grand Slam champion will make his debut in the quadrennial event.
Nadal has been fighting form and fitness problems since last year’s Australian Open, where a hip injury ruled him out of every tournament for the rest of the year with the Brisbane Open this year becoming his first event since that injury. But even in Brisbane, an abdominal issue forced him to sit on the sidelines before he made a comeback at the Barcelona Open and fortunately for him, he did not suffer major injury issues.
