Rafael Nadal won his record 13th French Open and 20th grand slam last year. On account of that, he is nominated in the ‘World Sportsman of the Year‘ category at the Laureus World Sports Awards.

The nominee list across six different categories was released which featured all the top-performers in 2020 across various sports. In the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award category, Rafael Nadal was nominated alongside Joshua Cheptegei, Armand Duplantis, Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James and Robert Lewandowski.

The ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal won the French Open again in October. With the win, he equaled Roger Federer’s tally of 20 majors and took his French Open count to 13.

Nadal took to social media to acknowledge and thank everyone.

“Thank you to everyone in the Media for giving me this Nomination. It was great to win my 13th @rolandgarros and my 20th Grand Slam last in 2020.
Very happy also with @frnadal and @laureussport to be collaborating. It is important also to give back to people in need.
Now fingers crossed when the academy will name the Sportsman of the year. May the best one win but thanks in any case for this nomination. Always an honor ??”, Nadal wrote in an instagram post.
