Rafael Nadal had a lot to reflect on after his first-round victory against Marton Fucsovics at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With the world watching the Spaniard play in the Olympics after eight years, he did not fail to perform for the crowd.
Despite facing discomfort in his thigh, Rafael Nadal made it to his singles match and started like nothing happened. He cruised past the first set 6-1 and seemed like he would win in no time. However, that was when Nadal dropped his guard and let his opponent play his favorite shots, which brought him straight back into the game.
Fucsovics forced a third set off Nadal and could have caused an early upset in the tournament. Soon, Nadal found his lost rhythm and broke at the right moments to win the scary first round 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. After the match, he was caught up in an interview with Eurosport where he gave a self-report on his game.
He started feeling comfortable, starts building confidence and I start feeling "smaller" and that's a vicious circle. In the end I saved myself on 1-2/0-40 with a couple of good points and some mistakes from him, and well.Rafael Nadal said via Eurosport
I subtitled the video of the interview with a Corretja fot @Eurosport_ES.

It was a nerve-wracking first-round match for Nadal fans, but Nadal impressed by winning despite a potentially serious thigh injury. Although he did not disclose the injury’s severity, he has cruised the first rounds of both doubles and singles regardless.
Rafael Nadal books the second-round matchup against rival Novak Djokovic
The whole of the tennis world rooted for Rafael Nadal in his first-round match against Marton Fucsovics for solely one reason. They wanted to see him advance to the next round and play one of his all-time challenging rivals, Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian had already secured his place in the second round on Saturday (July 27th) with a win over Matthew Ebden and waited for Nadal to join him. Nadal too kept his part of the bargain and has confirmed the Monday clash (July 29th).
It will be their 60th match against each other and most likely the final chance for Nadal to level the head-to-head scores. Nadal has won 8 of their last 10 matches on clay, but this year, Djokovic’s superior game experience and form make him the strong favorite.
