Rafael Nadal has a few weeks of professional tennis left before he hangs up his racket. The Spaniard has won everything the sport can offer and has claimed most titles several times. However, he is behind Novak Djokovic in the Grand Slam tally, despite once being in the lead.
Nadal has stated that he would have loved to surpass the Serbian’s Major title tally. When he claimed his 22nd Major title at the 2022 French Open, he became the first male player to achieve the feat. At that time, Djokovic had claimed only 21 Grand Slams.
However, in 2023, Djokovic won three of the four Grand Slams, which took his tally to 24 and his lead over Nadal to two. Following his retirement announcement, Nadal will finish his career with 22 Majors to his name.
This means that Djokovic can stretch the lead over his arch-rival and perhaps solidify his position as the greatest player of all time. In a recent interview, Nadal revealed that he would have loved to have 25 Slams to his name.
Nadal finished fourth in the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia recently. He failed to win a single match at the event, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals and to Djokovic in the third-place match.
Rafael Nadal “proud” of ending his career at the Davis Cup Finals

However, the Spaniard struggled with injuries recently and was forced to withdraw from several tournaments. His best run this year was at the Nordea Open, where he finished as runner-up. Afte injuries have forced him to call time on his career, Nadal has stated that he is proud of everything he has achieved.
Nadal will end his career at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. He has won the Cup five times in his career and will be a big addition to the Spanish team as they look to get their hands on the title once again.
