Roger Federer, ahead of the recently concluded Laver Cup, revealed that he was thinking of an exhibition event where both he and his longtime rival, Rafael Nadal, would play, and wanted it to be named ‘Fedal Tour’. After San Francisco, where the Laver Cup was held, Federer flew to Mallorca.

There, he spent some time with Nadal at the Pula Golf Resort. Both of them sent their best wishes to Ryder Cup’s Team Europe.

Hello everyone, from the golf course here in Majorca. I wish you good luck for the Ryder Cup. Team Europe, we are behind you, and maybe in the future we’ll have a new player on the team.

Federer co-founded the Laver Cup along with his agent Tony Godsick. The format of the Laver Cup is similar to that of the Ryder Cup.

With that swing, we’ll need a few more years. I’m a big golf fan, so I’m really going to enjoy watching you play. It’s going to be incredible. This is the chance to show your best golf, and I’m sure you’ll give it your all because we have to win.

Federer retired from tennis back in 2022, but not before playing doubles alongside Nadal at the Laver Cup after clinching 20 Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard, winner of 22 Grand Slam titles himself, called time on his career a couple of years later, at the Davis Cup, after Spain’s defeat to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup Finals.

Roger Federer on who is the GOAT of tennis

Now, Roger Federer is one of the greatest players tennis has ever seen. But even he grew up idolizing certain players. During a fun interview with Burna Boy on Complex, Federer named five players he considered the greats of the game. They were: Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

Stefan Edberg, Swedish guy, he always attacked the net. He was super elegant. He was the coolest, and then Boris Becker from Germany. They used to play against each other, so I used to be watching them on TV. And then Pete Sampras was the next one from the US. And of course Nadal and Djokovic, maybe you remember him?

Sampras comes fourth on the list of Grand Slam winners in men’s tennis with 14 titles. Edberg and Becker clinched six each.

Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal have won a combined 66 Grand Slam titles. The Big 3 reunited this year for the King of Clay’s retirement ceremony on Court Philippe-Chatrier during the French Open.

Djokovic is the lone member of the Big 3 yet to hang up his racket. He is still searching for his 25th Grand Slam title, which has eluded him since the 2024 season, with his last Major being the 2023 US Open.

The last time he reached a Major final was at the 2024 Wimbledon, losing the match to six-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz. This season, the 38-year-old progressed to the semifinals of all four Majors: gave the walkover to Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open, lost in straight sets to World No.2 Jannik Sinner at the French Open and Wimbledon, and suffered a straight-set defeat to Alcaraz at the US Open.

He has clinched only the ATP 250 Geneva Open this year and lost the Miami Open final to Jakub Mensik. The Serb will be in action next month for the Shanghai Masters, where last year, he lost to Sinner in the final. Djokovic will also be playing the first edition of the Hellenic Championship, an ATP 250 event in Athens, scheduled to start on November 1.
