Rafael Nadal will go down in the history books as one of the Greatest of all time. The Spaniard has won 20 majors, including a record 13 Roland Garros titles and has also won an Olympic men’s singles gold.
Apart from being a beast on court, the 20-time grand slam champion has an other side that not many know of.
The world no.3 also hones his culinary skills when he is not slaying opponents on court. In an interview with a Spanish publication- Mercacei, he spoke about the same.
Wherever I am, I always look for olives or extra virgin olive oil: Rafael Nadal
The 20-time grand slam champion started: “I like to cook. It’s not that I know how to do thousands of things, but I really like the ones I do and I enjoy cooking. In Manacor I go to the market or supermarket and choose the fish. Then I prepare it at home in the oven with potatoes, onion…and a lot of oil!”
Nadal admitted that he is not skilled enough to rustle up a heady range of mouthwatering dishes, he does “like to cook”. “It’s not that I know how to do thousands of things, but I really like the ones I do and I enjoy cooking,” he said.
The Spaniard said that he has always been very fond of olives.
“I have loved olives from a very young age. I ate a whole jar of olives! The truth is that in every place I go I always look for olives, I even ask for them in restaurants,” he said.
“Not only olives, but also a good olive oil. Whether in Shanghai or Spain, I always ask about both.”
Nadal said that extra virgin olive oil occupy a prominent place in his healthy lifestyle.
“Wherever I am every morning for breakfast toasted bread with oil, and at lunch and dinner I usually have salad or fish, always with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. For me it is fundamental and an immovable part of my diet and my way of eating.”
On tour, Nadal is currently recovering from a back injury and hence decided to withdraw from Dubai and Miami. He said that he will be back fully fit in the clay season and is expected to play in Barcelona.
