Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal ended 2020 by advancing to the semis of Nitto ATP Finals and claiming his 13th Roland Garros title. Further, he ranked as the World No.2 for the year-end. Even though such is the case, he aced past the World No.1, Novak Djokovic, to turn another stat in his favour. Nole is often cited as the “greater returner in history,” which is why this is a magnanimous accomplishment for Rafa.

As per the statistics recorded by the ATP on their official website, the Spaniard rules as the “greatest returner” of 2020. He edged past Djokovic in the pre-established criteria. This criteria is divided according to the percentages of: first serve return points won, second serve return points won, return games won, and break points converted.

Moreover, Nadal overcame every player to finish atop in the  first serve return and return game categories. On the other hand, Schwartzman has a 57.1% success rate on second serve returns. This deems him the most ruthless returner on second serves.

A dip in Novak’s ratings may be due to his drop in form towards the end of the year. Further, the Serb contended in more matches than majority of the ATP Top-10 players.
