Rafael Nadal undermines Djokovic’s new record, hints it’s ‘one of many’ records broken by Big 3

Rafael Nadal has finally made it to another Tennis tournament after a gap of two months. He is all set to compete in the ATP Monte Carlo Masters. This gap was injury enforced, a bad back being at the root of the problem.

Nadal has already said that he is very happy to be back at the Monte Carlo Open. After all, Nadal has won this tournament a record eleven times, and has a 71-5 win-loss record at this particular Open.

Rafael Nadal offers a frosty ‘well done’ to Djokovic

Novak Djokovic surpassed Roger Federer’s previous record of 310 weeks at world number one last month, and he looks set to keep on extending it for quite some time yet. Nadal at 209 weeks as no.1 is way off the pace and has no realistic chance of catching up. But there are other records that Nadal holds that are the envy of many in the tennis circuits.

Rafael Nadal pointed that out to the media. He says what he, Djokovic and Federer have done is break a lot of records and all sorts of records in the last few years, so a record like ‘most weeks as no.1’ is one of many records. He ended by congratulating Djokovic on the record.

Rafael Nadal speaking to the media at Monte Carlo said, “During this period of time, for the last few years, a lot of records have been broken,” he continued, “Three players did a lot of important things in the history of our sport. That is another great achievement for Novak, so well done for him, I congratulate him.”

Nadal concluded by saying, “As for what it means for the history of tennis: I don’t know. It is another broken record, well done.”
