‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal gets a tad bit emotional during the Mutua Madrid Open press conference. He is a little sad about his son not having a memory of his playing tennis professionally.
Nadal made his 20th appearance in Madrid and was joined by some special members in his box. Cheering him on was his wife and son, Rafa Junior.
The toddler was seen enjoying his day out, holding a mini tennis racket. After the match, Nadal was asked about playing more tennis in front of his son.
Well, I would love to play a little bit longer and give him a memory of myself playing tennis. That's what will be the ideal thing for me and for my wife and family. But I can’t. Probably I will not be able to make that happen. But at least I’m happy to have a great team and family and friends around me during all my life that helped me in every single way of being happy,Said Rafael Nadal during the post-match interview.
Due to multiple injury concerns, the Spaniard has chosen to end his historic career this year. And the road to retirement has also been going well for Nadal, who waved goodbye to many tournaments already, as another emotional one lines up.
Rafael Nadal is ready to test his body in the next round after an easy victory against Darwin Blanch
Spanish ace Rafael Nadal has started the second phase of his comeback to tennis. With only a limited amount of time left in the sport, the Spaniard is hoping to give it his all for the remainder of the year. Currently, he is playing at the Mutua Madrid Open for the last time.
Nadal had a great start to the tournament as he was paired alongside Darwin Blanch, who had received a wildcard entry into the game. What seemed like a fun match turned one-sided, with Nadal dominating the 16-year-old. He beat the American 6-1,6-0 to book a second-round spot in Madrid.
I didn't test my body much today. I think I played a decent match doing the things that I had to do to be through, but at the same time, I played against a player that today — I don't know in a few weeks — he's not solid enough yet, because he's making more mistakes.Said Rafael Nadal, when asked to gauge on his gameplay
Now, the Spaniard is set to face off against Alex De Mianur, who ousted him a week ago at the Barcelona Open. A chance at redemption for the Spaniard, who would not like to end his Madrid career on a low.
