Rafael Nadal still leads Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in this Grand Slam Final stat
The Big Three consisting of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic saw the youngest among them, i.e, Djokovic close the gap in terms of title wins with his victory at the Australian Open 2021.
It’s obvious that Djokovic wants to keep adding to his 18 major championships — he reached this number with his 9th Australian Open on Sunday — until he no longer trails Federer and Nadal, who share the men’s record of 20.
“They’ve made history already. They made a tremendous mark in our sport,” Djokovic said. “Whether I think about winning more Slams and breaking records? Of course, I do. And most of my attention and my energy from this day forward, until I retire from tennis, is going to be directed (at) majors, trying to win more major trophies,” he added.
However Djokovic is still trailing in terms of stats. As shared by veteran sports journalist Christopher Clarey on twitter.
Rafael Nadal still in the ‘Lead’
He posted stats that have been adjusted to take into account the finals match from the Australian Open 2021. The other two of the big three apart from Djokovic have won an equal number of finals.
Grand Slams | ||||
Players | Final Matches | Win | Runner | Finals Win % |
Rafael Nadal | 28 | 20 | 8 | 20-8(71.4%) |
Roger Federer | 31 | 20 | 11 | 20-11(64.5%) |
Novak Djokovic | 28 | 18 | 10 | 18-10(64.3%) |
This showed Nadal with a huge leap ahead with a whooping 71.4%. With Djokovic trailing close behind Federer by a mere 0.2%.
Nadal has won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award four times and was the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year in 2011. Representing Spain, he has an Olympic gold medal in both singles and doubles.
Since Djokovic defeated Nadal in three consecutive major finals in-between the 2011 and 2012 French Open tournaments, Nadal has struggled at Wimbledon and has not won another Australian Open.
Also, Roger Federer is still the one with the most amount of silverware won in terms of being Winner and Runner-up.
Roger Federer may still extend his percentages if he keeps winning after making his comeback in the Qatar Open in March.
