Many fans raised questions when Arsenal made the decision to sign Chelsea ‘outcast’ Raheem Sterling. The Englishman was excluded from Enzo Maresca‘s plans at Chelsea, after which surprising developments in the summer transfer window landed him at Arsenal. The winger put on a show for the Gunners as Mikel Arteta handed him his first start at the club.

Arsenal took on Bolton Wanderers at the Emirates as Arteta’s men picked up their biggest win of the season yet. Sterling put on a show for the fans as the 29-year-old scored and assisted in his first start. He set up 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri for his first goal at the club. Sterling found Nwaneri in the middle of the box, as he set up the youngster for a comfortable tap-in.

Sterling also went on to grab a goal for himself in the second half. He found himself in the right place at the right time as a shot from Bukayo Saka was spilled by the goalkeeper. Tasked with the easy job of tapping the ball into an empty net, Sterling reacted quicker than his marker to make it 4-0 for his side.

Ethan Nwaneri may have scored a brace and made the home crowd fall in love with him. However, Raheem Sterling also announced his arrival as he made two important goal contributions in a 5-1 win. A fan commented that Chelsea ended up giving the Gunners their best player and that they’ll regret the decision as the season progresses.

Another stated that the player still has a lot to offer and that Arteta will unlock his full potential eventually. A fan joked that Bolton Wanderers are still wondering what happened to them after the stunning performance by Sterling and his teammates. That being said, Chelsea fans stated that Arsenal have been scammed and that he won’t play this well again till his loan spell ends.

As for the game itself, Declan Rice, Nwaneri and Kai Havertz also put their names on the scoresheet. David Raya was replaced by Jack Porter in goal as the Englishman became Arsenal’s second youngest debutant ever, aged 16 years and 72 days old. Mikel Arteta also expressed his excitement at the young players that featured in the game.
