India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, ended his century drought after he smashed his 30th Test ton and 81st international century in the first Test match against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Optus stadium in Perth. Until that innings, Kohli did not score a century since the ODI World Cup semi-final in 2023 in Mumbai.
Kohli also had a prolonged drought in Test cricket, having scored just two centuries in five years till the Perth ton. Former Indian Head Coach and player, Rahul Dravid, has heaped praise on the former Indian captain after his 30th Test ton.
Dravid feels that Kohli batted sensationally on difficult wickets in the tour of South Africa but was not able to get that century. So it’s good for the former Indian captain to finally get that ton at the start of the important series. Dravid predicted that Kohli will have a big series in the BGT 2024/25.
He has been batting really well, even in South Africa months ago when we were there, I thought he was batting really well on a couple of difficult wickets. It is just nice for him to be able to get that hundred at the start of the series. I think he could have a big series.
Rahul Dravid said to Star Sports.
Kohli scored 100* runs off 143 deliveries in the second innings of the Test match and helped India register a 295-run victory in Perth to take a 1-0 lead. The bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah were sensational as they kept the pressure on the Australian batters and never allowed them to recover.
Virat Kohli is chasing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 100 international centuries
Sachin Tendulkar is the man to score the most centuries in international cricket, with 100 of those in his bag. Kohli is the second on this list and has 81 to his name. He needs 19 more to equal the Master Blaster, and to get that, he needs to attain another peak in Test cricket. He has 9,145 runs from 119 Tests at an average of 48.13. Kohli has 50 ODI centuries, 1 T20I century, and 30 Test hundreds so far in his career.

The second Test match will be a Day/Night Test match with the Pink Ball at the Adelaide Oval starting on December 6. India will play a practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI on November 30 and December 1. Captain Rohit Sharma will be back in the playing XI after missing the first Test due to the birth of his baby boy. Shubman Gill is also expected to be back in the playing XI after missing the first Test with a fractured thumb.
