Rahul Singh spins Services to the quarterfinal of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021
Rahul Singh
Rahul Singh has been steadily making waves with his terrific bowling in the domestic circuit. The 28-year-old cricketer has now come into his own in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as he stepped up against Rajasthan with his trademark economical bowling to help his side into the quarterfinals with a comfortable win.
Rahul Singh returned with figures of 3-33 as he along with Diwesh Pathania and Lakhan Singh ran riot through the opposition batting lineup. Rahul bossed the middle overs as Rajasthan’s lineup eventually succumbed to the pressure. Rahul bagged the wicket of opposition skipper Deepak Hooda who looked dangerous along with opener Manender Narender Singh and Shiva Chauhan as Rajasthan were skittled out for just 216 runs.
The game was a do or die game for Services who were eyeing a place in the quarterfinals. Openers Ravi Chauhan and Lakhan stepped up with a 101 run opening stand before wicketkeeper-batsman Devender Lohchab stepped in to add valuable 31 runs. The 232 run target proved too good for Rajasthan as they managed just 216 runs.
Rahul Singh continues to build on his impressive Vijay Hazare record
Rahul Singh is a fairly experienced campaigner when it comes to List A cricket. The 29-year-old has featured in 28 matches picking up 33 wickets at an impressive economy of 4.07. The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 season was a breakout season for him as he was first in the chart for the lowest economy of any bowler midway through the tournament.
Rahul eventually finished sixth in the season when it came to the lowest economy as he finished that of 3.42. Only one bowler in the top six had bowled more overs than him and none had more wickets than him in the top 10. The Services’ bowler finished 11th on the list of best averages as he returned with an average of 15.22 last season.
Two games into the new season, Rahul Singh has scalped eight wickets at an average of 19 and an economy of 3.45. The budding spinner will be looking to emulate his heroics from the previous season and as Services reach the knockout stage. Services went through to the next round as they topped Group E with four wins from five matches.
