When Mark Davis brought in Tom Brady to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, one of the primary goals was to use his extensive experience winning seven Super Bowls to turn the franchise around. The first major addition was bringing in Pete Carroll as their HC.
However, since Carroll was out of work for a year, he did not have a coaching staff to bring along. That meant the new head coach would go through his phonebook to try and lure his former assistants. One of the rumored interviews was with current Miami Dolphins QB coach, Darrell Bevell.
However, that did not materialize, and the Raiders were back at the drawing board. It became tougher for them as a bunch of new head coach hirings meant a lot of assistants took promotions. Then the Raiders decided to look elsewhere, and they finally gave an update to ESPN’s Adam Schefter earlier today.
Back to the NFL: Former Eagles HC Chip Kelly is being hired as the Raiders offensive coordinator, per me and @PeteThamel.

This means Chip Kelly returns to the NFL after being out of the league for nearly a decade. This appointment was sure to raise some eyebrows as the 61-year-old coach did not leave the game on the best of terms.
Raiders make Chip Kelly highest paid OC
However, Chip Kelly is known for his offensive wizardry. He was instrumental in helping the Philadelphia Eagles to a 10-6 record in consecutive seasons after finishing a lowly 4-12 in their last season with Andy Reid. But he eventually lost his job, as his decisions as a head coach far outweighed his creativity in play calling.
Then again, as a head coach in college, he helped turn the UCLA Bruins program around, but still was let go after they could not get over the hump. Then last season, he has rebuilt his reputation as an offensive coordinator with eventual champions Ohio State. That helped him garner a major deal, as revealed by SI’s Albert Breer.
The @Raiders told candidates during their search they were making a serious commitment with an infusion of cash from the new owners. Here it is—Chip Kelly was lured to Vegas with a deal averaging $6 million per year, per sources.

Kelly is now the NFL's highest-paid coordinator.
This means the Las Vegas Raiders valued Chip Kelly as an elite offensive coordinator. Giving him $6 million makes him the highest coordinator in the league, a salary that is higher than what some head coaches get.
