Geno Smith has faced tough times in the NFL since the Jets drafted him in the second round of the 2013 draft, but he lasted for 12 games as he bounced around teams. Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks gave Smith a second chance after Russell Wilson left the franchise in 2022.
The turnaround was astonishing. Smith completed a career-high 69.8% of his attempted passes for 4000+ yards and 30 touchdowns and won Comeback Player of the Year and his first Pro Bowl honors. It was enough for the Seahawks to agree to a three-year extension worth $75 million ($25 million per year).
His resurgence continued even after Carroll walked away from football. Even though the Seahawks failed to qualify for the playoffs, Smith won 18 games out of 32 and averaged nearly 67% in pass completions and a second Pro Bowl.
Carroll returned to football after the Las Vegas Raiders, under Tom Brady’s management, appointed the veteran as head coach in the 2025 offseason. Carroll’s first move was trading for Smith because the Raiders required a quarterback. The 34-year-old agreed to a two-year $75 million deal to leave Seattle for the West Coast.
Geno Smith gets trolled for bragging about his money
Smith is finally hitting the heights he once promised to. He’s earning a lot of money by playing the game he grew up loving.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Geno Smith’s net worth in 2025 is $30 million. The Florida native was recently seen bragging about being a millionaire at a local game.
“That’s why I get paid the big bucks. That’s why they pay me the big bucks, n***, because I do it,” Geno Smith shouted at someone who wasn’t captured in the footage.

It’s not unprecedented to see football players brag about how much money they have, but fans don’t expect that from Smith. His outburst left fans on social media shocked. A barrage of tweets, criticizing his choice of words, filled the platform.
Nothing more disgusting than someone bragging about the money they make. What a little bitch.

Did Geno Smith violate the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy?
— Ken Cornia (@CorniaKen) June 29, 2025
Will he be fined?
The NFL's personal conduct policy explicitly states that players are held to a higher standard and must conduct themselves in ways that reflect favorably on themselves, their teams, and the league.

During a recent press conference, new Raiders general manager John Spytek revealed the reason behind trading for Smith.
There’s a familiarity with Coach and with Geno from Seattle… [He] played his best football for the coach there. When you’ve watched Geno through the years, he can throw the football with the best of them.

In terms of success, Smith is undeniably the biggest name the Raiders have had as their quarterback since Derek Carr left in 2022. According to reports, Smith will start over Aidan O’Connell in 2025.
However, reuniting Caroll with Smith wasn’t the only reason Spytek agreed to the move.
I love my picks, and I have to remind Coach Carroll how much I love picks, but listen, we used a late third-round pick to hopefully have our starting quarterback here for years to come.
Spytek quipped
Despite improving the roster, the Raiders will find the AFC West difficult to conquer with the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Denver Broncos aiming for the same. Smith is locked in, to make the Raiders a winning franchise once more.
