Los Angeles Rams rookie linebacker Jared Verse backtracked on his previous statement about Philadelphia Eagles’ fans. The 24-year-old put his hands in the hornet’s nest and now he is fearing retaliation.
Verse hails from Dayton, Ohio; he grew up in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He only played in Philly once in his career. In an interview with Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, Verse revealed that he isn’t fond of the notorious Eagles fanbase.
The 19th overall pick in the 2024 draft further added that he was genuinely unhappy with the Eagles’ fans when the Rams played against the Eagles at SoFi Stadium in November. He remembered seeing nasty gestures pointed at him during and after the game.
Philly natives caught a whiff of the interview as soon as the article surfaced. Eagles’ fans are a proud bunch with the passion to match their rowdy personality. Verse’s words ticked off one half of the fanbase while the other took it as a symbol of achievement.
Rob Maaddi, Eagles beat writer for Associated Sports, revealed that Philly has been eagerly waiting to welcome Jared Verse and the Rams at Lincoln Field. In a recent segment of Up & Adams, Maaddi laid down the law.
Hear us out… is saying I HATE EAGLES FANS really that much of an insult to Eagles fans??? 🤔🦅@heykayadams and @RobMaaddi discuss… @Eagles @RamsNFL | #FlyEaglesFly #LARvsPHI pic.twitter.com/y2pU8DjMxd

Maaddi later spoke with Verse about the backlash.
I just spoke to Jared Verse. He knows he can’t take back what he said about #Eagles fans but wishes he used the word “dislike” instead of “hate” and he also thanked them for donating money to support those impacted by the LA wildfires.

Saquon Barkley played a big part in Jared Verse reversing his views on Eagles fans
Verse’s statement reached the ears of Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley. 94WIP.com contributor Eliot Shorr Parks documented Barkley’s reaction after hearing Verse’s statement.
“Probably not the smartest thing to say coming to Philadelphia…Probably wouldn’t give them extra fuel”

It’s not smart to end up on the Eagles most-wanted list. Verse may not be on the same level as Cowboys Micah Parsons in the depth chart, but it only takes a small spark for the Eagles’ fans to make their presence felt.
Eagles topped the NFC East with a 14-3 record while the Rams bagged the NFC West with a 10-7 record. In the wildcard, Barkley and co. defeated the Green Bay Packers 22-10, and the Rams destroyed the Minnesota Vikings 9-27.
Verse logged two combined tackles and one fumble return touchdown. He played every game for the Rams in the regular season, recording 66 combined tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 2 pass deflections, and forcing 2 fumbles.
