Randy Arozarena did not seem pleased with Cal Raleigh on Monday. After the USA catcher snubbed his handshake during the game against Mexico, the 2-time All-Star went off at him in the post game interview and slammed him.

This was a big matchup in Pool B. The United States had not won against Mexico in the WBC since the inaugural edition in 2006. The next three games between these two countries went to Mexico.

Both sides came into this game with a perfect 2-0 record. While the Americans won 15-5 against Brazil and 9-1 against Great Britain, Mexico also had dominating wins.

They defeated Great Britain 8-2 in their opening game before demolishing Brazil in the second game. They would enforce the mercy-run rule over them as they crushed the South American team 16-0 after 6 innings.

In an intense game, Arozarena would try to shake hands with Raleigh in his first plate appearance. The “Big Dumper” would snub this handshake, an action that turned some heads on social media.

The USA would go on to win 5-3. A dominating pitching performance from Paul Skenes saw the Americans end a losing run against Mexico and extend their record to 3-0 in this tournament.

Arozarena’s comments in the post-game interview, however, have stolen the spotlight. The former American League Championship Series (ALCS) MVP seemed unhappy with the actions of Raleigh and went off at him in Spanish.

According to Arozarena, the 2025 MLB Home Run King said it was “good to see” him. He though, did not like him snubbing his handshake and dropped some bold words.

That fake a** “good to see you” he hit me with? He can shove it straight up his a**. I’m out.

Randy Arozarena said as per Master Flip

Last year, Arozarena hit a career high 27 home runs and played an important role alongside Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez in the offensive department. The Mariners would reach the ALCS for the first time since 2001. However, they ended up losing against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Social media reacts to Randy Arozarena’s comments regarding Cal Raleigh

Randy Arozarena seemingly did not take Cal Raleigh’s handshake snub lightly. After the game, he took a major swipe at his Seattle Mariners teammate. Social media was left divided with this.

While some fans on X defended him, some defended Raleigh. There were some who even made jokes regarding this and expressed that the Team Mexico star was probably getting traded.

Check out some fan reactions regarding this whole ordeal below:

Some users would also point out that it could be sarcasm between the two teammates. Whether that is true or not, only Arozarena can confirm that.

Raleigh, meanwhile, has not responded to these comments from his club teammates. It will be interesting to see what he has to say in this matter.

Randy Arozarena-Cal Raleigh handshake drama not the first time in WBC when a catcher declined to shake hands

Cal Raleigh declining a handshake with Randy Arozarena on Monday has become a talking point on social media. This is, however, not the first time a catcher has declined hand shake with the opposition players in the World Baseball Classic this year.

Last Friday, Australia improved to a 2-0 record following a 5-1 win over Czechia. During the game, Australia’s catcher Robbie Perkins came under the spotlight after he snubbed a handshake with Milan Prokhop.

This incident sparked some wild reactions on social media as many attacked the catcher. He would later clarify the incident and claim it was nothing personal, just business from his side.

There’s absolutely no malice.

Robbie Perkins said as per Sam Blum of The Athletic

Raleigh perhaps has a similar mindset like him. It remains to be seen how the 2025 AL MVP runner-up will respond to his explosive words of Arozarena in the future.
