Bash in Berlin was an incredible night. Without doubt, the best part of the card was the star-studded main event. Gunther took on the Legend Killer Randy Orton in a stellar match. After a banger back and forth action, the Ring General secured the win and retained his World Heavyweight Championship in Berlin.
The match had a slow start where The Viper had the upper hand initially. Gunther gave a tough fight to the Apex Predator. However, the latter dominated the majority of the battle. In the closing sequence, Orton tried to take down the Ring General but got clutched into a sleeper hold, marking the end of the match. Following the battle, both the stars expressed respect for each other with a handshake.
The World Heavyweight Champion had a tough fight against the veteran. He had nothing but admiration for Orton at the end. He proposed a handshake to be marked as the truce of this rivalry. The Viper looked quite upset with this major loss, as his hunt for another world title will seemingly continue on SmackDown.
Randy Orton was close to winning his 15th World Championship. Apparently, it can be said that he is closer than ever to winning a world title in the near future now that he has signed a hefty 5-year extension. It is going to be interesting to see what the future holds for the two stars as they part ways on their journey.
Possible direction for Gunther after Bash in Berlin
Gunther’s first title defense was a successful one at Bash in Berlin. It was highly expected that he would retain the World Heavyweight Championship at the event. Now the question remains: What’s next for the Ring General following his victory over Randy Orton?
There is a lot of talent on Raw. The Austrian star might get a new challenger this coming week on Raw. Recently, he had a series of matches with Ilja Dragunov during WWE’s tour of Europe. Therefore, many expect the Mad Dragon to be the next person to collide with the 36-year-old.
Moreover, stars like CM Punk, Bronson Reed, and Drew McIntyre are all in line for a title shot. Therefore, the Imperium leader has a huge target on his back. It is going to be interesting to see the challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship at Bad Blood in Atlanta after such a banger start to this iconic reign.
