The Adolis Garcia era at the Texas Rangers has come to an end. On Friday, the American League West side non-tendered the 2023 World Series hero, along with Jonah Heim, making them free agents.

Garcia, who joined the Rangers in December 2019, broke into the team in April 2021 following an injury to Ronald Guzman. The outfielder batted with a .312 batting average and hit 11 home runs in May. This earned him the Rookie of the Month award.

He ended the campaign with 31 home runs and 90 RBIs. He remained consistent from the plate in 2022 as he smashed 27 home runs and picked up 101 RBIs with 25 stolen bases while batting with a .250 average.

The 2023 season was when he became a household name in Texas. In 148 games, the Cuban-born star led the offensive line of the Rangers and hit 39 home runs and batted in 107 runs. In the postseason, Garcia’s bat remained hot.

After overcoming the Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles, the Rangers locked horns with their rivals, the Houston Astros, in the American League Championship Series (ALCS). Over the final four games of this series, he hit 5 home runs, which included a massive 3-run go-ahead bomb in Game 5, a grand slam in Game 6 and two home runs in Game 7.

This performance saw “El Bombi” being named the 2023 ALCS MVP. He then continued his impressive showing in the World Series. In Game 1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he smashed a walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

The Rangers ended up winning the series 4-1 and clinched their maiden World Series crown. In 15 games, he produced a slash line of .323/.382/.726 with 8 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Since that season, Garcia had two subpar seasons. Over the past two seasons, he had an OPS of .675, ranking him 117th among the 123 qualified hitters. On Friday, November 21, the Rangers made a big decision and non-tendered him.

Apart from Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim, the Rangers have also non-tendered right-handed pitchers Josh Sborz and Jacob Webb. Sborz was the pitcher who closed out Game 5 and threw the final pitch to win the World Series for the Rangers.

As a free agent, Garcia is now open to joining every team in the league. Given his age and experience, several top teams could be in the mix to sign him.

As per the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers’ ownership is planning to cut its payroll for the 2026 season. This could lead to the team possibly trading away some of their high profile names, such as Jacob DeGrom and 2023 World Series MVP Corey Seager.

The name of the former Los Angeles Dodgers star came up in trade rumors on Thursday following this development. The shortstop still has 6-years and $189 million remaining on his 10-year $325 million contract, which he signed in 2021.

As per Evan Grant, the Rangers are not exactly moving him. The insider suggested that the team could explore the possibility of moving such a big contract if the cuts take the payroll below $200 million.

Seager only played in 102 games in the 2025 season as he struggled with some injuries. He still batted with a .271 average and managed to hit 21 home runs and had 50 RBIs. The Rangers had a disappointing campaign and finished 3rd in the AL West with an 81-81 record.
