Jackie Robinson‘s legacy in the field of baseball is legendary and unquestionable. ESPN’s Mina Kimes recently reported a move by Donald Trump‘s government that, in her opinion, dishonored his contributions as an American. The statement sparked a public outcry that placed the NFL reporter under scrutiny. Amid all the hassle, Ice Cube‘s son O’Shea Jackson Jr. chimed in to back up Kimes.
Much ado started when the Department of Defense decided to remove Jackie Robinson‘s feature of having served in the Army. The already heated controversy reached NFL analyst Mina Kimes who gave it a more reachable platform.
While it did not involve anything sports or the NFL, the reporter called out the country’s colonial past that conceivably influenced the government’s decision. As a consequence, Kimes received extreme criticism over different pointers.
In a recent tweet, rapper Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson substantiated her claims slamming people for implying otherwise. He firmly called out the critics by stating the obvious rhetoric of Jackie Robinson having faced racism. “I know the “cool” thing to do is to hate Mina but damn,” bashed O’Shea Jackson.
O’Shea Jackson further asked the audience if they implied that things had been smooth for the athlete. Robinson’s aforementioned feature was a dedication to the Baseball players who served in WWII, which was formerly removed. However, it was soon restored and put back up on the website. Reportedly, the DOD removed it to correct the mistakenly added DEI label in the URL.
Yall mad at @minakimes for saying you can not erase the fact that they (and when I say “they” I mean racists) were racist towards Jackie Robinson?

So the story should be , “yeah they just let him in. There were no issues.”
I know the “cool” thing to do is to hate Mina but damn
The decision may or may not have been a political move but in the bottom line of things, it involved an athlete. By extension, an athlete who is much celebrated in the country for changing the landscape of sports and society simultaneously. That said, Mina Kimes’ address of the issue was not received well by a chunk of the public. Former ESPN employee Robert Griffin was one of them.
Mina Kimes claps back at NFL reporter for call to fire her amid Jackie Robinson controversy
Mina Kimes took her time firing back at the round of critics that had gathered adding fuel to the fire that was the Jackie Robinson controversy. One of them was NFL reporter Dov Kleiman who posted a couple of tweets directed at the ESPN reporter on his X handle. More than one of the posts seemed to imply that “the fans” wanted the news channel to fire Kimes.
I see @NFL_DovKleiman keeps posting weird stuff about me today. Flattered bc I think this means I now have something in common with Jennifer Lawrence?

Additionally, he asked his followers if they thought Mina Kimes should be removed from the channel. The row of tweets prompted a response from the latter. The journalist addressed the “weird posts” further joking that she had something to share with Jennifer Lawrence. The jab referenced the popular reports that alleged Kleiman’s obsession with the actress.
Notably, ESPN’s Around The Horn gas gained several headlines in the past for indulging in political opinions that digress from sports. Although the outlet focuses exclusively on athletes, it expanded its coverage. Race is one of the most brought-up topics that, as sensitive as it is, always gathers backlash from the audience.
