Rashad McCants feels LeBron James should not have confronted Stephen A. Smith over Bronny James

Ever since LeBron James confronted Stephen A. Smith at the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, the basketball world has seemingly turned numb. On one hand, the ESPN analyst understood that it was a father confronting Smith about his comments about Bronny James.

But on the other side, there are questions if what the superstar did was right. He basically accosted a member of the media for seemingly criticizing his son. That suggests the father, a powerful player in the NBA, did not want negativity to flow to his son.

However, in any form of sports, criticism is a part of it. Whenever a son comes along, the comparisons are bound to happen. That is what Rashad McCants said while the debate surrounding this argument dominated the latest episode of Gil’s Arena.

We don’t need your daddy step up for you. Every son has gotten criticized, why is it the first time we seeing this? Did Tee Morant come in when Ja was getting criticized. What about LaVar?

Rashad McCants said

The former NBA star clarified that LeBron James is coddling his son which makes this latest confrontation more obvious. There are other player fathers who have stepped up to talk back to the media or fans. But whenever they did that, they faced a lot of backlash. However, James is not receiving any for his words to try and protect his son Bronny James.

Rashad McCants believes LeBron James has led players to ‘blackball’ Stephen A. Smith

While talking about this, Rashad McCants was made aware that players such as Draymond Green had stopped talking to Stephen A. Smith. That is after his perceived criticism of Bronny James. But then, the former shooting guard said.

Now he’s blackballed, huh. Imagine that. Don’t say a certain word or certain phrase and we won’t talk to y’all or come on your show.

Rashad McCants said

He believes when one’s son is in the spotlight, criticism is bound to follow. Add the fact that LeBron James is the face of the NBA and one of the greatest of all time and that adds to the narrative. McCants then pointed the blame at the four-time league MVP for making the situation worse.

Now NBA players are siding with James and avoiding Stephen A. Smith. That is fundamentally wrong as per the former Minnesota Timberwolves guard. He believes when every other father such as Tee Morant and LaVar Ball have faced whiplash, so will the James.
