Rashee Rice returned to start for the Kansas City Chiefs in their week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens. The second-year wide receiver got the green light despite eight felony charges against him.

Rice suited up for his first NFL game after being crowned as the Super Bowl winner, but it was only possible because the NFL committee stayed their verdict on the road rage case against the WR earlier this year.

Rice totaled his Lamborghini and then ran away with his friends. He eventually surrendered, but the police let him go after he paid for his bail. However, the court charged him with eight counts of felony, including one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury.

The 24-year-old missed the majority of the off-season training, but the Chiefs allowed him to attend team meetings through FaceTime. Head coach Andy Reid spoke with Rice and revealed he will let the law take its course.

Rice re-joined the Chiefs roster and practiced with his new teammates Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, and Juju Smith-Schuster. In an interview, he thanked the front office for allowing him to continue and disclosed being sorry about the car crash.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter predicted that Rice may miss at least half of the season if the NFL decided to announce their judgment before the season started. However, the court delayed announcing their verdict on the matter, and the league committee followed suit. So, Rice made it into the 53-man roster and was cleared to start against the Ravens. This angered the fans.

The Chiefs need Rice. After selecting him in the second round last year, the SMU graduate was their best receiver besides Travis Kelce, who is a tight end. He played 16 games in total and racked up 79 catches for 938 yards, 11.9 yards per catch, 7 touchdowns, and fumbled the ball twice. Rice further caught 26 passes for 262 yards and scored 1 touchdown in the postseason en route to winning the Super Bowl as a rookie.
