Isaiah Likely announced himself as one of the top targets for the Baltimore Ravens during their opening-day fixture against the Kansas City Chiefs. He was mostly a bit-part player in his first two years in the league, playing second choice behind veteran tight end Mark Andrews.
Likely took the opportunity with open arms on Thursday, recording 9 receptions for 111 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. These are very good stats on any given day, but not in this case.
The 24-year-old nearly won it for the Ravens at the depth. Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw a dot to him inside the Chiefs’ red zone, and he caught it, scoring a touchdown. As the Ravens celebrated, the referee stopped the clock with a handful of seconds remaining until the final whistle.
Following a lengthy review, the officials decided to disallow the touchdown and judged Jackson’s pass as incomplete. The jumbotron flashed the exact moment Likely’s feet touched the ground. A minuscule part of his toe was out of bounds because of the pressure provided by the Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton.
Likely wasn’t happy about the decision, and his disappointment, mixed with anger, splurged out while returning back to the locker room. The cameras caught him cursing at a fan who pushed his buttons a bit too much.

Regardless, the Ravens lost the game 27-20. A revenge game that the Ravens were dead set on winning slipped away by a toe.
Patrick Mahomes’ advice for Isaiah Likely after his touchdown was disallowed
Mahomes watched from the sidelines as the refs reviewed Likely’s possible winning touchdown over and over again. The multiple-time NFL MVP stood in silence and thought they had lost the match until the initial decision was reversed, awarding the win to the Chiefs.

Later, Mahomes spoke with the media and addressed a thing or two at Likely for future reference.
It [Likely’s toe] looked good from my angle on the sideline. But then that first view you saw, you could see the cleat. That's a great football team, and I'm sure we'll see them again at some point in the playoffs. We're happy with the win now. He's got to wear white cleats next time; that's my advice for him.Patrick Mahomes said during the on-field interview after the game

Quarterback Lamar Jackson thought they won the game and had a hard time accepting the disallowed TD.
I thought it was touchdown… I still think it’s a touchdown.Lamar Jackson said
A gloomy Isaiah Likely faced the media and accepted he should have done better with the catch.
That's on me. I just have to get both feet in. I harp on myself to catch everything and make sure everybody puts us in the best possibility, so I take responsibility.Isaiah Likely said
The 4th round pick out of Coastal Carolina even fired a warning shot to the Chiefs that their opening day performance was arguably their worst and they would only get better as the season progressed.
This is probably the worst game we gonna play all year. So if this their best that they got, I mean, good luck in the postseason.Isaiah Likely said (H/T: Chiefs Wire).
It’s more than likely that the Ravens will once more meet the Ravens in the postseason. Before that, they need to erase the loss from their memory and win most of their remaining 16 games, starting with the Las Vegas Raiders in week 2.
