Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of India’s finest off-spinners and irrespective of the format, he has been an absolute terror for the batters. His stint with MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Indian team has always been well known and the duo formed a formidable pair whether with the bat, or on the field or off the pitch as well.
However, did the duo start from the cradle together? Actually not. In fact, Ashwin had to burn his feet to get into the visible range of Mahi.
Ashwin made the cut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and started plying his trade under the leadership of Dhoni. Revealing his story of making the big dash at a launch event of his book called ‘I have the streets – A kutti cricket story’, Ashwin highlighted how he decided to swing for the fence.
It’s an evolving relationship. MS didn’t even know someone like me existed in 2008. And because of that, I made it my life’s goal — from 2009, it was to get the wicket of MS Dhoni. When a person has a goal like this, he will go crazy when an opportunity to achieve it pops up.Ravichandran Ashwin said at the launch event
The cricket world is all aware of MS Dhoni‘s special ability of supporting players till the very end and Ashwin echoed that in his speech, stating that once Dhoni sets his eyes on someone and knows the fact that he is one for the long race, MSD is not giving up till the very end.
A possible hint at how MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin may reunite at CSK
Earlier in June, Ashwin rejoined the Indian Cements where he will be taking charge of the CSK High Performance Centre which will be coming up on the suburbs of Chennai and should be put in motion ahead of the next season of IPL.
This administrative move could also be the cue for Ravichandran Ashwin to return to CSK and reunite with MS Dhoni on the pitch as well. However, that is a move which is only speculative considering the fact that when it comes to the yard, Dhoni is relentless in terms of his and his team’s recruit.
