Shannon Sharpe and Ray Lewis’ friendship is no longer what it used to be. The old Hard Knocks clips showed their tight-knit bond at the Baltimore Ravens. They won the Super Bowl in 2000, and both were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

However, after retiring from football, both Lewis and Sharpe went their separate ways. Sharpe signed up as a TV analyst at FOX Sports and then at ESPN.

On the side, the three-time Super Bowl champion teamed up with Cincinnati Bengals legend Chad Ochocinco to launch the Nightcap podcast. Sharpe further created the ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast to interact with famous faces from different backgrounds.

Lewis knew that Sharpe wanted to dabble with his luck in media even during their Baltimore days, but he finds it hard to fathom the content he churns out daily.

During an appearance on the PBD podcast, Lewis said,

I’m shocked at his [Shannon] content. The things that Shannon has said now and has done now, I would have never believed Shannon would say that or do that.

Lewis revealed that he never reckoned on Sharpe becoming a heavy drinker because he always advocated that his body is his temple.

We kind of went our own separate ways because I’m like, ‘Hmm, you’re going to take that route? I can’t do that route.’

Lewis added

The retired linebacker called Sharpe’s content peddling ‘ignorance,’ with which he will never willingly indulge himself.

These gossip conversations that they’re having and bringing up all this stuff. I’m not going to do that to nobody. I’m not in the business for that. I’m in life to try to teach people what it means to be a better man.

Lewis quipped

According to the Ray Lewis website, Lewis has been involved in charitable work. He founded the Ray Lewis 52 Foundation, a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to provide personal and economic assistance to disadvantaged youth.

Lewis played his entire NFL career with the Ravens from 1996 to 2012. He racked up 2,059 career combined tackles, 1,568 solo tackles, and 41.5 sacks. The Miami graduate won two rings and was chosen the defensive player of the year on two different occasions.

Sharpe, meanwhile, created the blueprint of the modern-day tight end. After a decade and two rings with the Denver Broncos, Sharpe joined the Ravens to win his third before returning to Denver for a second stint that lasted two years. Sharpe logged 815 completions for 10,060 yards and 62 touchdowns.

Shannon Sharpe gives his two cents on Colorado’s poor start to the college season

Sharpe became a supporter of the Colorado Buffaloes after HOF Deion Sanders accepted the head coaching gig in 2023. He has backed Coach Prime to succeed from day one.

Prime led the Buffs to the Alamo Bowl and nearly won the Big 12 championship. Despite the high expectations in Boulder, they were bound to hit a wall without their two best players, Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, who moved to the NFL.

Sanders replaced his son with former Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter. Salter debuted for the Buffs in their opening game against Georgia Tech. He finished the fixture with 17 completions from 28 for 159 yards and 1 touchdown in a 27-20 defeat.

Sharpe liked some of the things Salter did with the ball, but he also discovered one major flaw in his game.

Salter, bro, you missed entirely too many throws… And No. 20 got a nice set of hands on him, the running back. Bro, he’s wide open! And I hate when quarterbacks do this.

Shannon Sharpe said

Salter ran the ball 13 times for 43 yards and one score. Up next, the Buffs host Delaware before hitting the road to face the Houston Cougars.
