The successor of the legendary Rahul Dravid, Cheteshwar Pujara is a perfect embodiment of his senior player. Much like Dravid, he absorbs the nasty new-ball deliveries and acts as a disguised cushion on which the Team rests upon.

The number three Test batsman for India, Pujara, again put a resilient show during Australia’s tour. Though he didn’t gather a century under his belt this time, his three half-century contributions with hours and hours spent on the pitch were enough to cruise India through the rubble.

Pujara’s observant eye to never lose the sight of the ball was in him right from his childhood. After the productive tour in Australia, this little anecdote from his childhood has hogged the light.

“As a 4-yr-old Cheteshwar Pujara was playing with a rubber ball and a toy bat. His family took photo of that moment. His father Arvind later noticed how his son was watching the ball closely & thought he could learn cricket. His wife Reena said: ‘You must teach him then.’”

Pujara was the leading run-scorer with 521 runs in seven Test innings in India’s 2018-19 tour of Australia. In the Border-Gavaskar series 2020-21, Pujara scored 271 runs and faced 928 deliveries.
