Carlo Ancelotti‘s Real Madrid picked up an important 2-1 win in La Liga on Saturday as the Los Blancos put two goals past Celta Vigo at Estadio de Balaidos. Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. helped them claim all three points in a game where Luka Modric broke the record for the oldest player to play for Real at 39 years and 40 days old. Mbappe’s goal in the 20th minute shocked fans as he found the net from far out.
Celta Vigo survived multiple shots on goal in the opening minutes before Mbappe picked up the ball unmarked and well outside the penalty area. His powerful shot didn’t give the keeper time to react as it found its way to the top left corner. His goal comes at a time when reports claiming the club regrets signing the player went viral on social media. A fan praised Mbappe for delivering at a time when fans were criticizing him for missing games for Les Blues in the International break.
The forward bagged his eighth goal since joining the club and is now third in the list of La Liga top scorers, behind Ayoze Perez and FC Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowksi. Kylian Mbappe recently came in the spotlight after he responded to a Swedish newspaper’s claim that he came under allegations of r*pe while in Sweden.

Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. combine to put Real Madrid within reach of Barcelona
With the 2-1 win over Claudio Giraldez‘s Celta Vigo on Saturday, Real Madrid are now level on points with FC Barcelona. Even though the Blaugrana have a game in hand to be played against Sevilla, the El Clasico fixture later this month has the potential to shake up who stays on top in the Spanish top flight. Following Mbappe’s stunning finish in the first half, the score remained the same for another 30 minutes.
The hosts then clawed their way back into the game through a well worked team goal courtesy of a Williot Swedberg finish. However, after a number of disallowed goals, Madrid finally took the lead through none other than Vinicius Jr. in the 66th minute. The Brazilian was put through on goal by veteran midfielder Luka Modric and then proceeded to round the keeper before passing the ball into an empty net.

Following the win, Carlo Ancelotti praised his players, putting his focus on both Modric and Mbappe. The Italian said that it was an honor to work with the Croatian and that the club is extremely lucky to have him as a player. As for Mbappe, Ancelotti stated that the Frenchman is looking like a different player after the International break. Madrid play their next game against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
