Real Madrid coach Zidane terms Liverpool clash ‘physically very demanding’
Real Madrid have been drawn against 2019 UEFA Champions league winners Liverpool in the quarter finals stages. The match will be a replay of the 2018 Champions league final which Real Madrid won 3-1 to lift their 13 Champions league title.
Real Madrid played a perfect game against Atalanta in the Round of 16 2nd leg as Zidane ran the show showing his tactical ability in the tie. However, Zidane acknowledged that Liverpool are a tough opponent to play against despite the Merseyside team struggling in the Premier league.
Real Madrid face the prospect of playing their home leg in a different country
On the prospect of facing Liverpool, he said: “We know it’ll be difficult. At this level, all the teams are very good and it’ll be a very very very demanding game. We know this team. Physically, they’ll demand more of you. But, for now, that’s for after the international break. Right now we have tomorrow’s game and we’re only thinking about that.”
Real Madrid face a tough first and second week of April as they also have the El Clasico against Barcelona scheduled right in between the two Champions league matches against Liverpool. Real Madrid might also face a situation where they would have to travel to a neutral venue outside of Spain for the first home leg if the quarantine rules in Spain remain similar for UK visitors.
When asked about the logistical issues if the situation remains the same, Zidane answered in his cool and collected nature. “We’ll play wherever they tell us to play. We’d prefer to play at the Di Stefano, but we’ll see what they say”
“We cannot say that it is a bad draw or a good one. Whatever happens throughout the season, Liverpool is a team that in a tie can play its card at any time. It is the same as us.”
Real Madrid however still have 2 La Liga matches to win 6 points before shifting their focus onto the crucial tie against Liverpool on 7th April.
