Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. has been officially handed a two-match suspension following the red card that he received during the La Liga encounter against Valencia. The Brazilian forward was sent off for punching the Valencia keeper during the club’s 2-1 win.

Vinicius Jr. was shown his second red card against Valencia, as he got involved in a heated altercation with Valencia keeper Stole Dimitrievski. The keeper had reacted to the forward’s penalty demands by attempting to taunt him. A frustrated Vini responded to it by hitting him on his head. This immediately prompted referee Cesar Soto Grado to review the incident, leading to Vinicius’ dismissal.

In opposition to the referee’s decision, the Brazilian angrily lashed out at him. Later on, teammate Antonio Rudiger and a Real Madrid staff member had to step in to de-escalate the situation. Vini’s violent outburst led to an RFEF disciplinary committee investigation. Referee Soto Grado’s post-match report also played a crucial role in determining the length of the ban.

The star player has now been handed a two-match suspension. It is contrary to claims that he might be out for at least four matches. The post-match report highlighted the incident as an act of violence only within the context of the game. Moreover, it also acknowledged that the ball was not in play at the time of Vinicius’ foul on the Valencia keeper.

As a result of the two-match ban, the 24-year-old is set to miss Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga fixtures. He will sit out against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid. However, the Brazilian forward will still be eligible to play in the club’s UCL and the Cope del Rey fixtures.

Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Valencia comprised a series of controversial incidents. The La Liga report, however, did state that offensive and violent chants occurred on ten different occasions during the match, co-ordinated by fans. They refused to acknowledge that they were aimed at Vinicius. It is despite the fact that the Brazilian star has been a target of racial abuse over the past few seasons.

Moreover, the 24-year-old has had a history of abuse at the Mestella stadium. He had previously received a red card for reacting to abusive chants during a La Liga match between Los Blancos and Valencia, last season. It appears the Brazilian forward has yet to receive any justice for how things have played out due to alleged racial abuse.
