Real Madrid’s tough scheduling takes a toll on left-back Ferland Mendy
Ferland Mendy
Real Madrid’s continued struggle with injuries seems to be unending. French left-back Ferland Mendy has suffered a muscle injury and will be sidelined for a few weeks.
Real Madrid faced back to back high profile games against Liverpool, Barcelona and Liverpool again inside 7 days and Mendy played in all 3 matches. Los Blancos are already without the likes of Sergio Ramos, Carvajal, Varane and Lucas Vazquez in defence.
Ferland Mendy is out for atleast 10 days and can return for the Champions league
Zinedine Zidane has a decision to make in their next match against Getafe as only Militao and Marcelo are the only fit senior defenders available. Victor Chust is the other defender who is in the fray of being included for the match.
Ferland Mendy has established himself as the No.1 left-back ahead of Marcelo and has started most of Real’s games this season. he played all of the 270 minutes last week and the accumulation of minutes has led to another muscle injury at Real Madrid.
Real have posted on their official website: “Following the tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with an overload to the soleus muscle in his left leg.
“His recovery will be monitored.”
Ferland Mendy might just return in time for Real Madrid’s Champions league semi-finals against Chelsea which is scheduled to take place on 28th April. Marcelo is his direct replacement but the Brazilian has failed to hit his strides in the recent seasons and fallen back in the pecking order at Madrid.
Mendy will be missing for the start of that run, which starts with a short trip to Getafe on Sunday. They will be at Cadiz on Wednesday, before returning to home soil against Real Betis.
