WWE has achieved astronomical success under Triple H‘s leadership, with talented wrestlers getting their chance to shine. He made many changes to improve the wrestling business, one of which was shortening the match card of Premium Live Events. Based on the latest reports, WWE is pleased with the outcome and plans to continue on that path.
According to reports from Fightful Select, the shorter PLE match card format works perfectly for WWE’s weekly shows. As a result, they can now fill Raw and SmackDown with exciting, high-profile matches. In 2024, B-tier premium live events like Backlash and Clash at the Castle featured a total of five matches each.
Meanwhile, one of the “Big Four” PLEs, SummerSlam, featured a total of seven matches, which fans thoroughly enjoyed. The upcoming event in Germany, Bash in Berlin PLE, has a total of five matches announced so far. One of the key matches will be between Randy Orton and Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title.
Other matches will feature big stars like Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens, who will face off in a “friendly” battle for the WWE title. Triple H has focused on delivering quality matches rather than overloading a single-match card. Only time will tell what unfolds at the Bash in Berlin PLE in Germany on August 31.
Fans expressed mixed reactions over the decision to feature a lower number of matches on PLEs
Although reports suggest that WWE favors shorter match cards in recent PLEs, fans have mixed opinions. Some fans love the idea and support the concept of fewer but higher-quality matches, while others are hoping for a change. One user stated that B-tier PLEs should feature approximately 4 to 5 matches, while the “Big Four” PLEs should include 7 to 8 matches.

One fan argued for lower ticket prices, noting that they had spent a lot of money and felt that five matches were not enough. Another fan took a jab at WWE’s rival AEW, stating that they need quality matches rather than a large number of them.
One user wanted all premium live events to have at least 7 matches, arguing that 5 were not enough. Another user disagreed, stating that only the “Big Four” PLEs should be longer. Here are some of the top reactions from fans:
Overall, fans displayed a range of mixed reactions to the news. It will be interesting to see if the promotion continues with shorter PLE events in the long term.
