Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has reportedly turned down Liverpool advances, choosing to remain with the Spanish club. The 25-year-old, who played a key role in Spain’s 2024 Euros win, attracted significant interest from the EPL side.
Newly appointed Liverpool manager Arne Slot aimed to make Martin Zubimendi his first signing of the summer transfer window. He would have been the club’s new number six, left vacant by Brazilian star Fabinho‘s departure. However, the 25-year-old has declined a move to Anfield, informing Reds’ director Richard Hughes about his decision. The Spaniard had a £51 million release clause in his contract.
The Spanish club has successfully convinced him to stay by offering him a new contract with improved wages. Zubimendi was outstanding during Spain’s recent Euro win, playing four matches. He also played in the final against England, coming on for Rodri at half-time. The midfielder has been at Sociedad since 2011, helping the club finish sixth last season while also scoring four times in 31 appearances.

Liverpool reportedly working on deal to sign Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon
Liverpool is reportedly prepared to part ways with Colombian star Luis Diaz to make room for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. The Reds have been seeking an upgrade on the left flank and believe the Englishman is the perfect fit for the role.
The young winger has impressed since his move to Newcastle from Everton, and is being seen as a potential replacement for Diaz. Liverpool held preliminary talks with the Magpies about a potential player exchange but is now considering a direct cash offer for Gordon. The 23-year-old is seen as a young and more dynamic winger.
Additionally, the club has already generated £27.5 million from Fabio Carvalho‘s sale to Brentford to help fund Gordon’s transfer. They are also open to selling the Colombian winger for £50 million.
