There was unexpected drama beyond the Octagon at UFC 322. What was meant to be a showcase of elite mixed martial arts turned into a chaotic scene, diverting much of the attention from the fight card itself. Islam Makhachev’s coach, Javier Mendez, has now provided additional context about the brawl that broke out in the audience during the event.
A brawl broke out between controversial influencer Dillion Danis and Makhachev’s teammates Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov. Zaynukov landed a flurry of punches on Danis, who the Dagestani group ambushed during the undercard fights at UFC 322. Security, as well as UFC executive Hunter Campbell, had to intervene and separate and escort Danis out of the arena.
In the lead-up to UFC 322, Danis was constantly trolling Makhachev and his team through a series of social media posts and memes. After the brawl, Zaynukov made it clear that Danis’ actions were not taken lightly in Dagestan, and he paid the price for it. However, Mendez recently spoke to Submission Radio about the main reason for the brawl at Madison Square Garden.
Come on, dude, you know you are asking for trouble, and then they showed me the videos of what he was showing. Showing Ali [Abdelaziz] and Islam in a relationship type of brace and then he was doing things with a ********, and Islam embracing, and then he is talking crap on other things.

Mendez also stated that Danis had made remarks targeting aspects related to Makhachev’s background, contributing to the escalation. He connected these actions to previous controversies involving Danis, noting that similar behavior had surfaced during earlier public disputes. Mendez’s comments were undoubtedly a reference to an earlier conflict involving Logan Paul and his partner, Nina Agdal.
In a broader context, Danis entered UFC 322 amid public controversy stemming from Agdal’s lawsuit against him for online posts and personal content circulated during their feud. A federal judge issued a restraining order preventing him from releasing any further intimate material. Later updates in the case included claims that Danis may have damaged his phone to hinder evidence recovery.
The fallout from the UFC 322 incident led to swift action from the promotion, as UFC CEO Dana White imposed a full ban on Dillon Danis from all future UFC events. The decision underscored the organization’s intent to prevent further disruptions linked to his conduct, especially given the ongoing controversies surrounding him.
Jorge Masvidal weighs in on the UFC 322 brawl
Dillon Danis is widely known for an online persona built on provocation, frequent insults, and confrontations that place him at odds with many fighters. He has repeatedly targeted Jorge Masvidal in the past, mocking his career choices and competitive direction. Danis also trolled Masvidal for choosing to box Nate Diaz rather than pursue an MMA bout.

Masvidal was present at UFC 322 and later explained that he had been in the VIP area before heading back toward the arena floor. During his return, he crossed paths with Magomed Zaynukov, who informed him of the altercation involving Danis. Masvidal learned of the brawl only moments after it unfolded, realizing he had missed it. The situation immediately triggered a heated response from him.
As I’m getting closer to the arena, the UFC starts running at me, ‘You stay right here, don’t move. What just happened? What did you get into?’ They’re grabbing me and holding me. I’m like, ‘Bro, I just literally got here. I wish I could have done something. By the time I got out to the main (card), all the good fun was taken already. Dillon Danis had already got ****** mopped up, kicked in the ****** face.

UFC CEO Dana White later explained that he had intentionally seated Jorge Masvidal far from Dillon Danis to avoid any confrontation. However, he acknowledged that Danis had been moving around the arena instead of remaining in his assigned location. This oversight allowed Danis to end up near members of the Dagestani contingent, contributing to the escalation at UFC 322.
