- KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 152 runs, setting the record for the highest score by an Indian in IPL history.
- He became the first Indian and third overall to surpass the 150-run mark in an IPL innings.
- Rahul is now the only player in IPL history to score multiple hundreds for three different franchises.
It was a fine afternoon for KL Rahul, who scored an unbelievable 152 runs for Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings. What is being described by many as the ‘Innings of the Decade’, the 34-year-old batter etched his name in history books.
DC, looking to get its IPL 2026 campaign back on track, played high-flying PBKS, at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Opting to bat first, the home side lost opener Pathum Nissanka for 11 runs, but an impeccable 220-run stand for the second wicket between KL Rahul and Nitish Rana set the stage. The veteran batter was dropped on 12, and once again on 51, but he did not provide a third opportunity to the bowlers.
Rahul launched a scathing attack, achieving his fifty in 26 balls. Maintaining his momentum, he scored his next fifty runs in just 21 balls, culminating in a century scored off a mere 47 deliveries. The 34-year-old did not just stop there, adding another 52 runs to finish the innings with an unbeaten 152 off 67 balls, with the help of 16 fours and 9 sixes. Rana also scored 91 runs off 44 balls, to power DC to a record 264-run total in the end.

Records tumbled for KL Rahul, with it being the highest score-ever by an Indian in the history of the IPL. He edged his way past the previous record held by Abhishek Sharma, who had scored 141 last year. Rahul also became the first Indian batter and the third overall to cross the 150-run mark in an IPL innings, with Chris Gayle‘s historic 175* (2013) and Brendon McCullum’s 158* (2008) only ahead of him.

KL Rahul is now the only player in IPL history to score multiple hundreds for three different franchises, two each for PBKS, LSG, and now, DC. It was his sixth hundred in the league as well, which puts him level with Chris Gayle, and the duo only trail Virat Kohli (8) and Jos Buttler (7). To add to it, the Karnataka-born batter overtook Tilak Varma’s record (151) for the highest individual T20 score by an Indian.

Despite earning the POTM award, Rahul’s afternoon was bittersweet as the PBKS successfully chased down the 265-run target in just 18.5 overs. The chase was fueled by contributions from Prabhsimran Singh (76), Shreyas Iyer (71), and Priyansh Arya (43).
IPL Orange Cap swaps hands thrice as KL Rahul, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Abhishek Sharma dominate a high-scoring day
A phenomenal day for batters in the IPL, it saw 968 runs being scored across two matches. As a result, it led to a fierce battle for the IPL 2026 Orange Cap, which changed hands three times among KL Rahul, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Abhishek Sharma in a day.

The first match saw PBKS defeat DC, with last year’s runners-up chasing down a record 265-run target. However, it was DC opener KL Rahul who briefly rose to the no.1 spot on the Orange Cap list, after scoring a masterful 152 runs off 67 balls, to take his season tally to 357 runs in seven matches. Rahul stayed on top for less than two hours, with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi overtaking him soon after.
RR faced SRH in the second game of the day, in which Sooryavanshi scored an impressive 37-ball 103. As a result, the left-hander reached 357 runs, the same as Rahul, but grabbed the Orange Cap by virtue of a better strike-rate. Just an hour later, SRH’s Abhishek Sharma moved on top, as he helped his team chase down a 229-run target with a 57-run knock, to reach 380 runs.

The race for the Orange Cap is still on, with Heinrich Klaasen, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Sai Sudharsan, and Shreyas Iyer also among the top run-getters. Meanwhile, CSK’s Anshul Kamboj and SRH’s Eshan Malinga are level on top of the Purple Cap list.
