Queen of Clay Iga Swiatek won her fifth Grand Slam title at the 2024 French Open. The Pole bested Jasmine Paolini in straight sets to win her fourth title here. Throughout the clay season, no one has been more dominating than Swiatek. Other than the loss in the finals of Stuttgart, the Pole has been unbeatable.
Things could have been very different for the WTA No.1 as she was almost tasting defeat at the hands of Naomi Osaka. In the second round, it seemed that Osaka had the chance to beat Swiatek, but could not. With that match-point save, she became only the fourth woman to do so. The rest is history and Swiatek did not drop a single set after that and went on to win the tournament for the fourth time.
Just before the French Open, she had also won the Madrid and Rome Masters to become only the second woman after Serena Williams to win all three titles in a single calendar year and complete the triple crown. She also became only the third woman to win three consecutive French Open titles after Monica Sales and Justine Henin.
Swiatek just leveled up from her hard-court gameplay and went the whole clay season without dropping many sets. She finished all her matches in straight sets, and the finals were not any different for her. Tonight she beat the Italian 6-2,6-1 to clinch the title in front of an energetic Paris crown.
