Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez was lucky to not have been sent off against Crystal Palace, for a ‘poor’ challenge on Daichi Kamada. He was only awarded a yellow card for the two-footed reckless foul, leaving opposition fans enraged.
The Red Devils controlled the match for the entire 90 minutes, but it ultimately ended with a 0-0 scoreline. The club recorded 67 percent possession and 18 shots, but failed to score past Dean Henderson, who was later voted the Man of the Match. However, fans were left fuming over a 63rd minute challenge by United center-back Lisandro Martinez on new Crystal Palace signing Daichi Kamada. They were fortunate enough to have eleven players remaining on the pitch, after that incident.
The Argentinian defender was looking to win the ball near the box. As the Japanese midfielder attempted to clear the ball, Martinez raced in and jumped with both his feet into the air, attempting a tackle. The 26-year-old was lucky enough to have landed on the ball, with referee David Coote bringing out a yellow card to award a free-kick. However, the Palace side felt the need for a red card for the challenge, which they compared to a 1990s-style tackle.

VAR later on, checked for a potential red card for Martinez, but confirmed him to have made no contact with the ex-Lazio midfielder. Meanwhile, the 0-0 stalemate left United reeling in the 11th position on the EPL table, with just seven points from five matches.
Fans slammed Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez for his 90s style challenge on Daichi Kamada
Lisandro Martinez’s 90s style foul on Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada caught fans attention. Plenty of viewers felt that the United star should be awarded a red card for the foul, but was only spared with a yellow card.
A few fans labeled the 26-year-old center-back as a ‘criminal’, a name that that was previously given to him by Man Utd legend Paul Scholes, during the club’s 7-0 defeat to Liverpool last season . A few fans stated that the foul was completely wild and out of control, and was seriously intended to hurt Kamada. This intention, according to them, should have been worth a red card.

If they want to get rid of challenges like this, they need to punish them instead of treating them one-by-one and basing it on contact made.

The intent is outrageous

In case, Lisandro would have been shown a red card, he would miss the club’s next EPL match against Tottenham. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also playing Dutch club Twente this week, in the Europa League group stages.
