Jarren Duran found himself in hot water once again. On Thursday, the outfielder had an outburst in the middle of the game against the Athletics. Boston Red Sox broadcasters were not pleased with this and blasted him live on-air.

The incident took place in the top of the 6th inning when the Red Sox were batting. With the game tied at 3-3, the visitors had runners on 3rd and 2nd base following singles from Willson Contreras, Masataka Yoshida, and a sacrifice bunt from Caleb Durbin.

Duran then came up to bat. The 29-year-old has struggled this season with his form and was 0-for-2 at that point of the game.

He ended up hitting a fly ball in left field, which was caught by Tyler Soderstrom. Contreras took a few steps and turned around and headed back to 3rd base instead of going home and trying to bring in a run through a sacrifice fly. The first baseman would have been tagged out at the plate had he run.

Duran, however, thought otherwise. The 2024 All-Star was not happy to see his teammate not run and was seen shouting in the direction of Contreras and Red Sox third base coach Chad Epperson while making his way back to the dugout. On the benches, he continued his yelling.

This did not sit well with those involved with the Red Sox. Radio broadcasters Will Flemming and Lenny DiNardo blasted him for this action.

Jarren Duran looked like he was upset that Contreras didn’t come home and score. You kidding me? What is that?

WEEI play-by-play broadcaster Will Flemming said

After DiNardo expressed that he had no idea what that was, Flemming slammed Duran and claimed that this was “ridiculous.”

That is ridiculous. That is such a tired act, Lenny.

Will Flemming added

Flemming further reported that Duran slammed an iPad in the dugout. While he admitted they understood his frustrations given the year he had had, this did not sit well with them.

As for the game on Thursday, the Red Sox won 5-4. Back-to-back solo home runs from Wilyer Abreu and Willson Contreras in the 8th inning saw them turn the game around after they fell behind in the 7th inning.

Chad Tracy claims Jarren Duran was cursing himself during viral outburst

Jarren Duran lost his cool for some moment in the 6th inning after Willson Contreras decided not to tag up. While cameras showed that he was visibly frustrated and yelling at someone, Red Sox’s interim manager Chad Tracy claimed that Duran was just cursing himself.

While speaking with the reporters, Tracy defended the outfielder and said he was upset with himself for not driving in the run with just 1 out in the inning.

Just cursing himself for not getting the run in. Just mad at himself. That was all it was, just upset.

Chad Tracy said regarding Jarren Duran

This is not the first time Duran has been under heat this season. In May, he was called out after he hit out at NBC Sports analyst Michael Holley. Following the incident, he deactivated his Instagram account.

Before that, he made an obscene gesture towards a fan who crossed the line by bringing up his mental health struggles. Last year, in a Red Sox documentary, he opened up about this battle and revealed that he thought of taking an extreme step.

Duran also faced backlash in 2024. He was suspended in August after hitting back at a heckling fan with a homophobic slur. He later apologized for this incident.

Speaking of his performance on Thursday, Duran went 0-for-4 with 1 strikeout, which dropped his season batting average to .197. In 101 games, he has 13 home runs and 54 RBIs while striking out 125 times.
