One of the big names that has been trending in this offseason is Nolan Arenado. The 8-time MLB All-Star has been looking for a move away from the St. Louis Cardinals. The name of Boston Red Sox have once again being linked with him.
Arenado joined the Cardinals on a seven-year contract in 2021 with the aim of making a push for the postseason. However, in this four seasons with the Cardinals so far, he has not been able to achieve his goal.
For the past few months, his name has since been linked with several teams including the Boston Red Sox. Though Arenado has a no-trade clause in his contract, he is expected to waive it away to join a team and leave the Cardinals.
One major issue in his contract is the $74 million amount which is owed for the next 3 years in his deal. This has made talks about a trade move difficult.
A few days ago, MLB insider Jon Morosi appeared on the Hot Stove show. In that he claimed chances are continuing to increase that the 10-time Gold Glove winner will be part of the Cardinals camp during the Spring Training. The money he owes is the big reason for this.
On Tuesday, the insider once again mentioned that the Red Sox are in conversation with him. He also pointed out a move of Arenado could have some impact on the market of free agent Alex Bregman.
The Red Sox and Cardinals have had recent communication about Nolan Arenado, source says. If the trade talks move forward, they could have implications for Alex Bregman’s market.

If the trade talks move forward, they could have implications for Alex Bregman's market.
Of note, Cardinals exec Chaim Bloom has close knowledge of Boston's prospects.
Currently, the third base position on the Red Sox has been acquired by team’s superstar Rafael Devers. However, he looked a bit shaky in the infield and led the AL in defensive errors with 7. Meanwhile, Arenado is a top defensive player and could be a huge upgrade to the team.
Adding top-right handed hitter still a “goal” for Red Sox says team CEO Sam Kennedy
In the past few season, the Boston Red Sox have not lived up to the expectations of many. The 9-time World Series winners have not made it to the postseasons in each of their last three seasons. One issue for them has been the hitting. Adding a top-right handed hitter is one of the goal of the team as per CEO Sam Kennedy.

The Red Sox have a lot of lefties in their lineup. Though they have Vaughn Grissom and Trevor Story healthy, adding a right-handed hitter is something they are still looking on. As per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com Kennedy would “love” to add someone who bats as a righty.
That’s still a goal. It has been since the beginning. Obviously with Vaughn and Trevor hopefully coming into spring training healthy, we feel better about the more balanced nature of the lineup. But if we can add a right-handed bat, we would love to do that.
Sam Kennedy said
The two big names that could join them are obviously Nolan Arenado and Alex Bregman. However, the team is yet to make a considerate move for any of these two hitters.
Kennedy also made a blunt comment on the pursuit of Bregman. He stated that he is not allowed to talk about any specific free agent negotiations or anything.
Sam Kennedy on pursuing Alex Bregman:

"I’m not allowed to talk about any specific free agent negotiations or anything, but given that he’s unsigned, I think that speaks for itself."
So who will the Red Sox eventually end up with? Arenado or Bregman? Only time will tell whom they will land as Spring Training inches closer.
